Custom Size Thermal Transfer Ribbon in India — What's Possible and How to Order

Codewell slits thermal transfer ribbon to custom widths from 25mm to 160mm and lengths from 50m to 600m, on ½-inch or 1-inch cores, inside or outside wound. Send the label width, core size, winding and printer model. Standard sizes have no minimum order and dispatch the same day, and a free sample roll is available.

Standard thermal transfer ribbons come in a limited set of widths — typically 40mm, 60mm, 80mm, 110mm, and 130mm. These cover the majority of applications, but many industries need sizes outside this range:

- Garment wash-care labels: often as narrow as 25–35mm - Industrial drum labels: may require 150–160mm width - Specialty medical labels: non-standard widths for custom label stock - OEM applications: exact width matching to proprietary label formats

Using a 110mm ribbon on a 50mm label leaves 60mm of the ribbon's width unused on every label. A ribbon narrower than the label is worse: Zebra says areas of the printhead not protected by ribbon may wear out prematurely and damage the printhead.

To order custom ribbon from Codewell Image:

1. Measure your label width — this is the feed width of the label through your printer, measured perpendicular to the feed direction.
2. Add a few millimetres: the ribbon should be at least as wide as the label, and usually slightly wider.
3. Determine core size — check your existing ribbon or printer manual.
4. Determine winding direction — check your printer's ribbon slot orientation or existing ribbon label.
5. Specify quantity and length — longer rolls reduce changeover frequency.
