Pure Resin Barcode Ribbon
Maximum durability. Zero compromise.

About Pure Resin Barcode Ribbon
CW-33 is our flagship resin ribbon — maximum resistance to heat, chemicals, solvents, moisture, and abrasion. For labels that must survive the harshest environments and remain scannable for years.

Which label materials CW-33 prints on
CW-33 is our top resin grade, and it withstands sterilisation. In the grade table it is listed for polyester (PET) labels, polyimide labels and metal-effect labels. It is the only grade listed for metal-effect labels. Polypropylene is listed against CW-28 and CW-66, and film substrates against CW-28, not against CW-33. Paper labels are the wrong choice for any resin grade, since resin is made to bond to synthetic surfaces.
Printer makers describe resin as a hard polymer ink with the highest resistance to abrasion and chemicals. The applications above include medical device labelling, long-life asset labels and chemical and industrial tagging, where the print has to stay readable for the life of the product.
CW-33 compared with CW-28 and CW-66
If you are choosing between our three resin grades, the label list settles most of it. CW-33 and CW-28 both list PET and polyimide. CW-28 adds polypropylene and film substrates, and CW-33 adds metal-effect labels. CW-66 lists PET, polypropylene and cleanroom-grade labels, and it is chemical-free.
So the questions run in this order. Is the label metal-effect? Then CW-33. Does the label go through sterilisation? Then CW-33 is the grade we name, and the one to test first. Is it polypropylene or film? Then CW-28 or CW-66, not CW-33. Does your buyer ask for a chemical-free ribbon? Then CW-66. If none of these apply and the label is PET or polyimide, you can start with either CW-28 or CW-33 and let your own tests decide.
Testing CW-33 against your sterilisation method
Withstanding sterilisation is a statement about the ribbon. The label material and its adhesive are part of the same system, and a printed label that curls, lifts or loses its adhesive has failed even if the barcode is intact. So test the exact ribbon and label together, using your own sterilisation method, before you order volume.
A practical test is simple. Print twenty labels on your own printer. Keep two untouched. Put the rest through your sterilisation cycle, then scan the barcodes and compare them with the untouched labels, rubbing a few with a thumb as well. Zebra advises pre-testing every ribbon for its end use, and we send a free sample for exactly this. Tell us your method, so that we can say whether CW-33 is the right one to test.
Printer settings and ordering CW-33
Resin needs the most printhead heat and the lowest print speed of the three ribbon types, as TSC and Zebra describe it. Raise darkness in small steps from a wax-resin setting, slow the printer if the barcode does not verify, and stop at the lowest setting that works, since too high a setting can burn through the ribbon and wear the printhead.
CW-33 is slit in widths between 25mm and 160mm and in lengths from 50m to 600m, on half-inch or 1-inch cores, notched if needed, wound inside or outside. Standard sizes have no minimum order and are dispatched the same day. MSDS is available on request.

What is CW-33 ribbon?+
CW-33 is Codewell's top resin thermal transfer ribbon, called Pure Resin. It is listed for polyester, polyimide and metal-effect labels, and it withstands sterilisation.
Does CW-33 withstand sterilisation?+
Yes. CW-33 withstands sterilisation. The label material and adhesive matter as much as the ribbon, so test the exact ribbon and label through your own sterilisation method before ordering volume. We send a free sample for that test.
What is the difference between CW-33 and CW-28?+
Both are resin and both list PET and polyimide. CW-28 also lists polypropylene and film substrates. CW-33 also lists metal-effect labels and is the grade we name for sterilisation.
Can CW-33 print on polypropylene labels?+
Polypropylene is not listed for CW-33 in our grade table. Use CW-28 or CW-66 for polypropylene, and send a sample of your label if you are not sure which fits.
Can CW-33 print on metal-effect labels?+
Yes. CW-33 is the grade listed for metal-effect labels. Metal-effect finishes vary by supplier, so test a free sample on your own label.
How should I set my printer for CW-33?+
More heat and a slower speed than wax or wax-resin. Raise darkness in small steps and stop at the lowest setting that gives a barcode that scans, because too high a setting can burn through the ribbon and wear the printhead.
Can I order CW-33 in a custom size, with a sample?+
Yes. Widths run from 25mm to 160mm and lengths from 50m to 600m, on half-inch or 1-inch cores, inside or outside wound. Standard sizes have no minimum order and a free sample is available.
Printer compatibility
Pure Resin Barcode Ribbon (CW-33) is a flat-head thermal transfer ribbon, slit on ½" or 1" cores to match your printer model. Tell us the model and we will confirm the size, core and winding.
