Why choose Codewell Image for thermal transfer ribbons

To choose a barcode ribbon manufacturer in India, ask to see the factory, the DPCC approval and the GST nature of business, and test a free sample on your own printer. A genuine maker can show all three and sends a sample before you commit. Below are eight checks, with Codewell's answer to each.

Ribbon suppliers are easy to compare on the wrong things. Below are eight checks that matter when you buy thermal transfer ribbon for barcode printers, with Codewell's answer to each, limited to facts we can stand behind. If a supplier cannot answer one of them plainly, you want to know before the first order.

Eight checks before you choose a ribbon supplier

Each check has what to look for in any supplier, then how Codewell answers it.

  1. 1

Does the supplier slit and ship from its own factory?

What to look for: A named factory address, and a supplier who can say where your ribbon was slit. A reseller can only pass your question on to someone else.

Codewell: Codewell runs a DPCC-approved factory in Badli, Delhi, and has done so since 2016. There we slit coated jumbo rolls into finished ribbon rolls to your width and length. The address and company background are on the About page, and the supply side is covered in thermal transfer ribbon manufacturer in India.

  2. 2

Is the supplier's environmental approval real, and is the paperwork available?

What to look for: The approval document itself, not a logo. In Delhi the body is the Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC). Also ask for a Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) for each grade you buy.

Codewell: The factory is DPCC-approved, and an MSDS is available on request. What the approval does and does not tell a buyer is in what DPCC approval means for ribbon buyers, and the questions worth asking any supplier are in DPCC, ISO, RoHS, REACH and FDA explained.

  3. 3

Does the range cover the labels you print, not just the printer you own?

What to look for: A grade for each label material you use: paper, coated paper, synthetic film, textile. One supplier for every label means one set of tests and one place to call.

Codewell: There are 11 CW-series grades across wax, wax-resin, resin and wash-care, and you can compare all 11 side by side. For harder jobs, CW-30 covers −40°C to +80°C, CW-33 is the grade for labels that go through sterilisation, CW-66 is chemical-free and suits cleanroom and food-contact labelling, and CW-15 is the eco, low-emission wax-resin grade. To pick one, read wax vs wax-resin vs resin and which ribbon for which label material, or use the ribbon selector.

  4. 4

Can the ribbon be cut to fit your printer and your label?

What to look for: Width, length, core and winding to your specification, rather than the nearest size in stock. The wrong core will not fit the spindle, and the wrong winding prints blank labels.

Codewell: Custom widths from 25 to 160 mm, lengths from 50 to 600 m, ½-inch or 1-inch cores (notched cores available), inside or outside wound. Three guides cover the choice: how to choose ribbon width and length, the ribbon size chart by printer, and barcode label sizes and the ribbon each one needs.

  5. 5

Can you test the ribbon before you commit?

What to look for: A sample you can run on your own printer and your own labels, and no minimum quantity to get started. A ribbon only proves itself on your label: print it, rub it, scan it.

Codewell: Codewell sends a free sample roll, and there is no minimum order on standard sizes. The scan check to run on that sample is in barcode not scanning: ribbon causes and fixes.

  6. 6

How does it reach you, and how quickly?

What to look for: Dispatch time on standard sizes, who pays for delivery, and whether the answer holds outside the supplier's own city.

Codewell: Standard sizes are dispatched the same day, and delivery is free across India. Custom sizes are slit to order, so ask for the dispatch date when you enquire.

  7. 7

Will the supplier help you find the real cause of a print problem?

What to look for: A supplier who checks the printhead, the label and the settings before blaming or praising the ribbon. Faint print, white lines and unreadable barcodes have more than one possible cause.

Codewell: Our guides separate the causes: 10 common print problems and fixes, a 6-step printhead or ribbon test, and how to clean a printhead. Send your printer model, label material and the fault on WhatsApp or the contact page.

  8. 8

Does the supplier say what it does not do?

What to look for: A supplier that agrees to everything is guessing about something. Look for clear limits on range, size and product.

Codewell: Codewell sells thermal transfer ribbon only, not labels, printers or printheads. Our widest slit is 160 mm and our longest roll is 600 m. The limits are listed below so you can rule us out early if you need something else.

Comparing two quotes like for like

Two quotes only compare once the specification matches. Put these lines side by side first. To turn a roll into a cost per label, see how many labels a roll prints in barcode label sizes and the ribbon each one needs.

What to match when comparing ribbon quotes
Line to matchWhy it matters
Grade and label materialA wax quote and a wax-resin quote are different products. Both must name the label stock they are meant for.
Width and lengthRibbon at least as wide as the label, and usually a few millimetres wider, never narrower. Length sets how many labels one roll prints.
Core size and windingYour printer takes one core size and one winding. A mismatch means the roll will not fit or will print blank.
Dispatch and delivery termsCheck that dispatch time and delivery terms are stated in each quote, not left open. Codewell states same-day dispatch on standard sizes and free delivery across India.
Sample and minimum orderWhether you can test first, and whether you must buy a quantity before you know it works.

When Codewell is not the right fit

  • You need labels, a printer or a printhead. We sell ribbon only.
  • You need a ribbon wider than 160 mm, or a roll longer than 600 m.
  • Your problem is not the ribbon. Faint print, white lines and unreadable barcodes often come from the printhead, the label or the settings, and the guides in check 7 show how to tell.
