Why ribbon size matters
Using the wrong ribbon size wastes money and causes print problems. Too wide — you waste ribbon material on every label. Too narrow — unprinted edges and potential printhead damage. Wrong core — the roll won't fit your printer's spindle. Wrong winding — ink faces the wrong way, producing blank labels.
This chart covers the most common barcode printers used in Indian B2B operations. All sizes listed are available from Codewell Image in any CW-series grade (wax, wax-resin, resin, wash-care).

These are the widths for full 4-inch and 6-inch labels. For narrower labels, order a ribbon slightly wider than the label, never narrower.
How to read this chart
Max Width: the widest ribbon the printer accepts. You can use narrower ribbons — just ensure the ribbon is at least as wide as your label, and usually a few millimetres wider.
Common Ribbon: the most frequently ordered size for this printer. Codewell offers custom widths from 25mm to 160mm and lengths from 50m to 600m.
Core: ½" (12.7mm) on many desktops, such as Zebra's GK, GC and ZD220, TSC's TC series and Sato's CT4-LX and CG4. 1" (25.4mm) on industrial printers and on some desktops, such as the TSC TTP-244 Pro and TX series. The Zebra ZD421, TSC TE series and Sato WS4 take either.
Winding: outside wound means the ink faces outward on the roll. Most desktop printers — Zebra GK and GC, TSC TE and TTP, Honeywell PC42t — take outside-wound ribbon only. Many industrial printers accept both, but a few older Sato industrial models (CL408e, CL412e, M84Pro) take inside-wound only. The Winding column follows each printer maker's documents, and where a maker does not state the winding the row says to check your roll; the Zebra ZD rows follow Zebra's FAQs, which point them to GC and GK ribbons.
